Chelseaaa! Don’t you die on me!

So I watched (read: watched) the latest episode of Antara Cinta dan Dusta which featured Atika’s comeback from the hospital. She was being carried by Dokter Sultan (onore Sultaan!)

“Onore Sultaaan!”

But lucky she hadn’t been carried horse back. Onore Sultaan!!

Well, Atika has been having a very bad luck recently. But the most ridiculous effect from this is…

Why the hell are there so many hit and run activities in this show?! (Not just this show, actually) Last night, Carol (Wiandra’s illegimate child) was hit by a (stopping) car and made her way into hospital. It’s like this show has only got 3-4 settings lol.

And… what the hell?! Carol was running alone in the middle of the street! Come on, maan. Who the hell let her do that? And she run veeeerrry sloooow but the car didn’t even slow down. No, wait, the car was very slow as well, but it didn’t stop. Wait! It stopped right before hitting Carol!

And it’s magic that Carol was still running happily to the side of the street and suddenly bleeding like craaaaaazy!

“My haaand! My haaaaaaand!!! It’s bleeding like craaaaazy!!”

Goes back to Atika. She was… riding a wheelchair. And she went to traditional market. Can you imagine how impractical that was? Oh, she stumbled from her chair and ta-da… to be continued.

I can foresee tonight’s episode that she will yet go back to the hospital.

An Amateur Review on: Aubade by Philip Larkin

eAn Amateur Review on :  Aubade by Philip Larkin
Irfan Zahid Prasetya – 2201408025
International University of Semarang (UNNES)

The first thing to notice from this poem (or actually prose?) is that the Philip (yes, the actual person) is bored of life. Why? The very first line says so. “I work all day, and get half-drunk at night,” implies that he’s trying to relieve all the stress. And the next pieces of information say that he wakes up at four, meaning that he’s so stressful he wakes up long before how he used to. He’s so fed up with life, but he’s also afraid of dying.

Complicated?

Not really.

This poem heavily relies on Larkin’s point of view. Wait, of course it does, otherwise it’s not a poem. So what does make this poem special? My points exactly, (when?) it’s his way of seeing many things by his own point of view. Not many people dare to make use of their lousy brains to develop their own original point of views. This person, Larkin, is very smart he tries to think everything –and I mean every SINGLE thing—in the universe! Well, at leat he thinks himself smart, but that’s not important. He even thinks about death, and that is what makes him so afraid of it. What makes him think about death a lot? It all started because he despised religion another day. “Religion used to try,” was what he said. True, he never did explicitly tell us that he WAS a religious person. But by reading at the next two lines, “That vast moth-eaten musical brocade; Created to pretend we never die,” we can assume that he once believed that religion can ease his (spiritual) pain. Also, religion thought him that death means eternal forever alone. That is (most likely) what makes him an atheist in the end.

But nevertheless, (at least) Larkin is a good person. He think of something many people are indifferent to think. He’s so pessimistic he says it out loud, and makes (forces?) other people listen to him. Other people will also think about his points, and feel like being remided of something.

That’s right, a reminder that death will always haunt every people; that not every people should think about positive things, but also the negatives. Larkin sacrifices his own life to become a living reminder, making people remember about what they do also have negative effects and that needs to be considered.

External Factors on Learning Speaking

One thing before I start, everything related to improving speaking skills is called process. You listen to something, you try to repeat, you give opinions, you agree/disagree, you talk like “ummmmmmmmm” that’s a process of speaking. You cannot have a clear result on speaking skill. Why?

It’s simple!

(Unless it’s recorded,) a voice will vanish right after you speak.

Just like trust, it’s unrecoverable

Also, usually in speaking tests, each  student is given very limited time. The more the students are, the less the time will be. In one session (2 x 45 minutes), if there are 32 students, that means one person will get less than 3 minutes to perform, minus the opening of the lesson (which is usually up to 10 minutes).

Isn’t this infuriate you all? How are we supposed to make the most of our skills in only three minutes, even less? What if we were sick at the time? What if some of us had broken heart? What if one person has just being abducted by alien and s/he became Mexican all of sudden?

“Me encanta Inglés mucho, tanto como a mi país!” (translated: howdy!)

That is why, you need all the preparations possible in order to make up for the worst.

Check the next pages for the external factors in learning speaking, and (hopefully) the solutions
